Who are we?
Thomson Screening is a spin-out company from City University, London. It was set up to bring to market a range of innovative software screening solutions developed in the Department of Optometry and Visual Science by Professor David Thomson and his team.

Prof David Thomson
Director of Product Development
Professor Thomson has spent most of his professional life at City University where he lectured in Clinical Optometry and Visual Perception before becoming Head of Department.
In the late 90s he recognised the potential of emerging computer and display technology for vision assessment and screening and started developing software to exploit the new technology The first program was launched in 1992 and from
these humble beginnings, his software is now used in thousands of clinics and schools worldwide.
He started developing software for vision screening in schools over ten years ago and the current version reflects his years of experience in this field.
He continues to lead the product development in the company while lecturing widely in the UK and overseas.

Michael was CEO of the Map of Medicine (UCL and The Royal Free Hospital) a clinical knowledge application in widespread use by doctors in the UK. He is Chairman of Virtual Tutor NurseEXCEL (clinical governance software for Hospitals; City University London). Previous experience includes managing and investing in global education services and information software businesses. Michael has an MSc and Sloan Fellowship from London Business School.
Dr Tim Cooke
Director of Operations
Marta brings operational and healthcare management experience to the team.
Following her MA in English and Scandinavian Studies from ELTE University Budapest Marta moved to the UK where she went on to City University (now Cass Business School) to complete her MBA.
She started her career in supply chain management for GE where she participated in the Change
Acceleration Programme and was trained as a Six Sigma Black Belt. In her projects covered Eastern and Western Europe and Africa. After leaving GE Marta set up her own supply chain consultancy for European clients later using her operational skills in healthcare related industries.
Since 2004 Marta has had a number of senior healthcare operational and programme management roles both in the NHS the private sector. For 4 years she was a managing director of a private eye care business in central London.
Tim Cooke (Non-Executive Chairman) has worked in senior levels in media, software, and IT services companies throughout his working life.
Tim has a Chemistry MA and DPhil from Oxford University and an MTech from Brunel University. He was an early employee with Logica, where he held numerous senior management positions in the UK and overseas.
He was later Managing Director of Oxford Molecular Group plc and floated this software based drug design and genomics
company. He has also floated Intelligent Environments plc, the London stock market’s first internet company. He was a founder director of Anson Medical Plc, the medical device company.
Tim holds a portfolio of Non-Executive Chairmanships and Directorships and is currently Chairman of Six to Start Ltd and Clarinet Ltd. He is also Venture Partner to NESTA, the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts, a leading investor in early stage technology companies.
